Gear arrived!

The remaining “big” order just arrived this evening, which contained the entire lab minus modules/cables and the 3640′s I already had. I had the rack area somewhat neat, but now I’ve got a stack of routers/switches on the floor in front of it, from when I was screwing the mounts on to each one.

As it stands, I’m waiting on the following:

  • Several modules
  • New crimpers/CAT5 tester
  • USB to serial cable
  • (12) Serial cables

Not too bad overall. It’s a little frustrating to be missing out on the USB to serial..I can’t even console directly in to ANYTHING without that! So what I have here folks, is essentially a large, expensive space heater..in FLORIDA..not what I was going for..

Anyway, I guess I’m just anxious to get everything up and running. Doing all of this reading lately on TCP/IP Vol I makes me anxious to actually lab the stuff I’m reading, so I guess that’s the source of my frustration right now. Oh well, what can you do..but hit the books in the meantime. My hunger to learn more is insatiable it seems! Until next time..go study!

  1. You can always go to radio shack and get a USB -> Serial cable on the cheap.

  2. I got it going on my (other) desktop via the serial port..my primary didn’t have one. I also just received the AUI to RJ45 converter, so I am in the process of wiring that into my home network.

On a side note, it’s good to know for future purposes..I never knew that radio shack carried those.

  3. 3640s do not run MPLS. Im suprised nobody has told you this. You need to swap out 3640s for 3725s to run feature set 12.4T. I am taking my second lab attempt in a few months feel free to contact me if you need any help.

  4. I believe you’re mistaken. 3640′s do support MPLS with the correct IOS version.

Read several threads with CCIE’s agreeing..
